The following is a combined and paraphrased series of Bible passages which are taken from Job 12:24-25;II Thes. 2: 9-12; Psalms 107:10-21; I John 1: 5,7,9-11; II Chron. 7:14 When they are put in sequence such as this, parts of it could easily apply to today’s news headlines. However, unlike the news feeds, it ends with a positive twist which gives us an answer to our nations perplexing state of affairs. The formula is simple enough, but oh so difficult to implement into our everyday lives. As Jesus would say, “If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear and understand, because Wisdom and Truth are standing at the door of our innermost being. They are knocking. They want desperately to be the engine of our thinking and behavior. The statements say, “He takes away the understanding of kings, and he leaves them wandering in a wasteland without a path. They grope in the darkness without a light. He makes them stagger like drunkards. They will do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. Every kind of wicked deception will be used to fool those who are on their way to destruction, because they have refused to believe the truth that would save them. Because of their unbelief in God, He will send great deception upon them, and they will believe all these lies. Then they will be condemned for not believing the truth and for enjoying the evil they do. It further states that some sit in darkness and deepest gloom, miserable prisoners in chains. They have rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High. That is why he is breaking them and they are falling, and there is no one to help them rise again. Then they cried in their trouble, "LORD, help!" and he saved them from their distress. He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains. Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for all his wonderful deeds to them. For he broke down their prison gates of bronze; he cut apart their bars of iron. Some were fools in their rebellion; they suffered for their sins. Their appetites were gone, and death was near. They too they cried in their trouble, "LORD, help!" and he saved them from their distress. He spoke, and they were healed — He snatched then from the door of death. Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for all his wonderful deeds to them. This is the message he has given us: That God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. Anyone who hates a Christian is living and walking in darkness. Such a person is lost, having been blinded by the darkness. However, if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land. It would seem good if everyone who believes in prayer would regularly pray for and ask forgiveness for the sins of our leaders, our fellow citizens, as well as ourselves. This is a time honored practice. Many throughout history have interceded for the ungodly leaders and their nation which is on the wrong side of right living. It has worked well in the past, and it just may work for us again, but we must act now. We have the promise, let’s claim it and believe it, make it a part of our lives, then expect God to show Himself strong by giving us the wisdom and means to take our nation back from the hands of ungodly leaders and once again put it on a pathway of Godly values. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, for it is better to trust in the Lord than put confidence in man. |
